Shanell Sampson

Counselling Psychologist

Hi, thank you for clicking on this page. I thought it would be nice for you to know. Through my own journey, I came to the realization, that there are some things I cannot do fully by myself. That very often there is some kind of move that has to happen for me to attain change. I used to think of this as degrading. Now, my understanding is, there is nothing degrading about it. It is simply alignment.
As a Counselling Psychologist, I learnt, people approach therapy because here there is a new way of seeing. They often find that as the world keeps on moving forward, here, is the space we create a moment to stand still for us. “It is good to know that even one half-hour can make a difference in a life” as Carl Rogers proposes.
I work from a Person-Centered, Humanistic Approach, that incorporates influences from Attachment and Solution-Focused Perspectives, while keeping careful consideration of cultural concerns and practices. I also enjoy focussing on aspects of Psychodynamic Theory. I collaborate with clients to identify and enlist their internal strengths and resources to approach life’s challenges. I firmly believe that the therapeutic relationship should be one of authenticity, collaboration, and one that feels safe and supportive.
My background involves training and practice in a Community Psychology Clinic, in Student Wellness Counselling, Private Practice and Facilitation for Children with Special Needs. This exposure and involvement give me an anchor for championing interventions and strategies beneficial for diverse individuals. I hold an accountability to sought ways that align, respect and act in accordance with those individual experiences. My work and training balances children, adolescence and adults. Including students and young professionals.

“He who looks outside, dreams. He who looks inside, awakes” – Carl Jung
