Counselling psychologist
I am a Counselling Psychologist with 29 years of experience supporting clients in a variety of contexts.
I believe in striving to understand the clients needs first and then considering the most suitable therapeutic approach that will help the client or family best meet their needs. For example, the needs of a family with a child under 5 may be quite different from that of a child at school-going age.
I was initially trained in Cognitive Behavioural therapy and Systems theory. Additional training includes Parent-Child work, children under 5 (where the parent is in the room), play therapy and art therapy with primary school children, ego state therapy and transactional analysis, narrative therapy, solution focused therapy and organizational behaviour. My best teachers have been my clients as they keep me humble and have permission to let me know when therapy is being helpful or not.
Something that makes me happy is maintaining a good relationship with my young adult children. I love animals and enjoy reading, walking, cooking classes, traveling, and trying to keep my plants alive.
In my professional career nothing brings me as much joy as helping another find growth, healing and their own joy again.
You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. C.S. Lewis
